Amos never really understood the meaning of going to church, if you believed in heaven or hell why did you have to proclaim your faith in public once a week, wasn't it enough to believe that the places were there? Of course he always went every sunday with his grandmother, not wanting to leave her to fend for herself. What kind of grandson would he be if he made her sit alone every weekend for an hour in an uncomfortable pew. Besides it was something to do and most of the time Amos day dreamed anyways, he'd try to listen to a sermon but never quite grasped the meanings. His daydreams were usually just of normal days hanging about, though every once in a while he would have one that completely perplexed him. Like today for instance, he had dreamt about losing his watch, which was odd considering on his wrist filled with bracelets, there had never been a watch. The dream hadn't really made him perplexed, but it made him feel the need to get a watch, like if he didn't he might end up late for something in the near future.
After the sermon had finished he had gotten a ride from his grandmother and thus ended up where he was now, in the middle of the three story mall parking garage. He's feet touched the pavement as he got out of his grandmothers car and he waited for her to pull out of the space before walking towards the elevator doors at the other end of the car park. Pressing the down arrow he waited for the doors to open, loosening the slim black tie around his neck. It was the only thing he could have added to his ensemble that made, the black cardigan and white button down and black jeans, acceptable for where he had been earlier in the day, though it was just an every day outfit for Amos. The doors to the elevator finally opened and he stepped inside, watching them close as he pressed the lobby button and waited patiently. Some old elevator music played that he had come to know quite well over the years of visiting the mall, well enough that he was able to hum along with the tune until it stopped as the doors opened. Once again he crossed over the thresh hold of the elevator to the floor and entered into the first floor of the mall.
There wasn't a huge crowd as it was around six on a sunday evening, but there were enough for it not to be awkward. Once he had gone to the very same mall and was faced with the dilemma of hearing his own footsteps as he walked along the tiled floor. It just didn't seem right if a mall wasn't filled with some amount of noise, it wasn't normal, then again Amos wasn't normal to begin with. So it was kind of strange he preferred the noise, not that it mattered since there was some noise and he was quite content. Walking along the first floor of the shopping center he found himself wander to the outside of Urban Outfitters. Taking a moment to look at the displays in the glass windows he took a step inside and scanned the whole place for where the accessories would be. Low and behold he spotted a few racks near the register, all of which were dedicated to necklaces, bracelets, watches, scarves, bags, you name it they had it. He maneuvered his way around clothing displays until he was face to face with the watches. After trying on a few he decided on a small black leather cuff with a time piece that had been inserted into the leather. It suited his tastes, as did a bracelet made from an old fashioned key that had been bent and tied on a piece of black string.
Taking the two pieces up to register he payed and left the store quickly, grabbing the two pieces and unwrapping them quickly. He made his way to the center most point of the mall, fiddling with the two as he tried sliding them onto his wrist and adjusting them so they fit snug. When Amos had finally gotten them just how he wanted them, he found himself in front of the fountain in the center of the mall. He stood their, staring at the water as it sprayed up and then went back down, then up again and went in a repeating motion that seemed like it would never end. There was a gleam coming from the bottom of the pool and he noticed the coins that had piled up at the bottom, he wondered when they had cleaned out the fountain last. Feeling around in his pocket, he plucked out a coin and rubbed his thumb on it's smooth metallic surface, remembering when he had been younger and made wishes about trivial things like a puppy or an ice cream cone. Sure, he wasn't a child anymore, but he liked to think a wish could come true if you wished hard enough. Looking at the coin for a moment longer he turned his back before throwing the coin over his right shoulder and into the pool. The only wish coming to mind was happiness, he wished for happiness for not only himself but everyone he knew. Even if it might not come true, it put a smile to his face and he sat down on a stone bench quite content with himself. Looking at his watch he began to adjust the time, searching for his phone in his other pocket so he might find the correct time.

i'll be your everything , Sometimes people wondered if Enzo were crazy, as if she'd inherited her mother's mental illness. They saw insanity in the way she sashayed around parks, dancing to some song that no one else could hear or in the way she spoke, like a tiny pixie caught in some dream world. Her voice was high and clear but with a misty quality to it. Sometimes, people saw insanity in the stories she had memorized: Cinderella, Rapunzel, the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Enzo wasn't, however, insane in the slightest. She liked what she liked and she adored fairy tales, preferring a trip to Disney World over a trip across Europe any day. Enzo's main goal in life was to become a princess, though being a vet was her fallback option. However, Enzo knew that the moral of any fairy tale was that if you wished and believed hard enough, you always got what you wanted as long as your intentions were pure and Enzo's intentions were as pure as snow.
Enzo walked through the mall, although using the word 'walk' required a far stretch of the imagination. Fortunately, Enzo had a wild imagination and for her, the way she was half-dancing, half-floating through the enormous food court was nothing short of the way she normally defined her own walk. She'd always been told that when upset or frustrated, shopping was the best cure and damn, was she frustrated. The day had started off pouring rain and had only gotten worse from that point on. There had been thunder involved. And more rain. Therefore, the only way to brighten Enzo's day was a trip to the mall with her credit card, linked directly to the bank account that her father regularly pumped a supply of money into in order to keep his sweetheart comfortable. It wasn't that Enzo was mooching off of her father's money so much as that it'd always been there and Enzo had really known no other way of living. Her small house was paid for by her father and she only made a small amount of money when she nannyed occasionally.
By the time Enzo got to the food court, she wanted nothing more than french fries from McDonalds and she immediately set out to fulfill that want, medium sized and with a surplus of barbecue sauce. Placing french fries in her mouth with a fairy-like delicacy, Enzo started back onto her mission.
The center of the mall was hardly busy at all, though the occasional shopper walked past Enzo with a sort of laziness that implied no rush to be out. Enzo made her way to the fountain and noticed a teenaged boy staring into its depths, deep in thought about what Enzo could only assume were the coins at the bottom of it. It reminded her to make a wish and the girl dug into her pocket for some sort of change. She found a battered old, green-ish penny and she held it tightly in her hand, kneeling on her knees on the edge of the fountain, only a foot or two away from the boy, and thinking, please make the storms go away! Enzo flicked the coin into the fountain, hoping her wish would come true. Enzo hated the rain and she hated storms. They made everyone so much grumpier and the world always looked a lot greyer and sadder to her as well. As far as Enzo was concerned, nothing good came of thunderstorms. People were always worse drivers in the rain, resulting in more car accidents than there should have been and that meant more people that were hurt. That was why Enzo wanted to be a vet instead of a doctor; she could stand to euthanize a dog because that would be putting it out of its misery, but with humans, you couldn't just go around euthanizing people. You could give them morphine and other painkillers, but that didn't always work. Enzo loved helping people and she figured that the best way she could do that would be by taking care of animals for them.
But she was going off topic in her mind. Thunderstorms were awful also just because of the noise. They were loud and earth shattering and made her heart sink and her stomach twist every time she heard the crash of thunder. Enzo wasn't exactly scared of thunder (well, she was, but she wasn't deathly afraid of it) but it always managed to catch her by surprise, even if she'd seen the lightning and should have been expecting what came next. And besides, it wasn't as if lightning storms were harmless. Plenty of people got hit by lightning all the time and Enzo did not want to be one of those people.
Enzo had always heard about how everyone's dream was to 'kiss in the rain,' or some other kind of romantic gibberish like that, but Enzo honestly just couldn't see the appeal of kissing in the rain. You were sopping wet and grimy and your hair was a mess. The world was muddy and nasty and chances were, your clothes were pretty uncomfortable, though Enzo could see how that could serve a wonderful excuse to strip and get out of those clothes as quickly as possible. No, there wasn't really anything romantic about kissing in the rain, or dancing in the rain. Enzo was childish, but she drew the line at playing in mud or jumping in puddles unless those puddles were very shallow and she was wearing rain boots. But regardless, storms brought nothing but annoyance and dreary-ness to whoever was getting stormed on. There was a reason why 'getting rained on your parade' was an expression.
For good measure, Enzo decided to make another wish for the rain to stop, so she reached into her pocket and tugged out another coin--a nickel this time. She closed her eyes, made her wish and threw the nickel, opening her eyes just in time to see her watch go flying into the fountain along with the coin. Enzo made a tiny gasping noise, leaning so far forward as to almost fall into the fountain. The watch was right in the dead center of the fountain, just out of Enzo's reach, as if it was taunting her. Clearly Enzo thought in exasperation, this is why nickels are not the lucky coins that everyone hopes to find.
