Amelia walked into the not-so-quiet library looking around for an empty table. She slipped her headphones that hung around her neck. The sounds of talking were replaced by the sounds of Muse. She sung along to Neutron Star Collision. She threw her messenger bag on the floor and sat herself down on a wooden chair.
She kicked open her bag and dug around the mess to find her book. Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. It was old. The art cover was faded, the pages had numerous corners folded, and along the edges there were little notes she‘d written while reading. Her mother had gotten it at some book store in England while they still lived in their flat in London.
She slipped off her shrug. It‘s so hot in here. Grabbing the elastic from her wrist she pulled her hair into a messy ponytail. Pushing back her bangs, she opened the book to the page she‘d left off on. After a few minutes of reading her mind wondered off. Samson by Regina Spektor came on. She couldn’t help but sing along softy.
For someone who is confident about her pianist skills, she couldn’t play in front of anyone besides her parents. Not since her move from London. Everything she played had a depressed tone to it. She’d start off with something upbeat and it would soon turn into a lament in a minor key. Amelia shook her head, getting rid of her thoughts. Whatever. She’d get her muse back eventually.
