she was, of course, intended to be male if only so that she could bear her father's name. however, once mr. shoal saw his daughter, he figured any baby was good enough and the infant was bestowed with the name enzo. and promptly after she returned home, she was also given a nanny and her mother was sent off to a mental institution where enzo would never see her again.
the nanny sufficed for little enzo, though, and enzo didn't really miss her mother. she filled her life with fairy tales of all different sorts until the ancient english mansion she was living in was full to bursting. enzo lived for little red riding hood and cinderella. she wanted someone to kiss her from a deep, dark sleep or seven little men to watch over. when she was five, her father, enzo and the nanny moved to a large mansion in california and enzo started going to kindergarten where she made friends with people her own age as opposed to her father and the nanny. the tiny girl still kept her head in a world of magic and princesses and talking animals, dreaming of ballgowns and pumpkin carriages. she wanted nothing more than for prince charming to sweep her away.
until of course, sophomore year when enzo realized that what she really wanted was a princess charming, but that sounded a whole lot less magical. it didn't really matter though, because her father didn't care whom his daughter loved, so long as she presented herself at dinner each night and acted like a perfect lady. and if she never got into trouble, that was a plus, though mr. shoal had the money to keep the police off her tail if she'd ever really needed him to do so. but she never did. enzo hasn't drank a drop in her life and isn't ever really planning on doing so.
